What are the duties of a concierge? The role of a concierge is that of temporary personal assistant, local travel guide, and all around know-it-all. The job description for concierge professionals generally includes a strong emphasis on customer service and the ability to creatively think on one’s feet. Networking with local vendors for tickets, car rentals, and any other special needs of the hotel guests may also be part of the job description for a concierge. The traits of a successful concierge include enthusiasm, shrewdness, and a drive to please guests.

The role of a concierge is to assure that guests get whatever they desire, within reason. Concierge duties at a hotel may range from a task as small as giving directions to a nearby store to arranging a marriage proposal or wedding anniversary. A concierge job description may also include trading and negotiating with concierges from other hotels in order to provide hotel guests with things like great sports tickets, better theater seats, last minute restaurant reservations, or sold-out concert tickets. Concierges also tend to have relationships with many reputable tours and transportation services in the area to assure that guests are safe outside of the hotel. Finally, additional tasks such as providing personal shopping services, pet walking services, or arranging medical care needs can be a part of the job description for concierge positions.
